Canadian Shield Consultants and Waterloo Biofilter Inc., successful installation at Foran-McIlvenna Bay Operations Sewage Treatment Plant in McIlvenna Bay, Saskatchewan

Waterloo Biofilter Systems Inc., offers a range of treatment units and add-ons, providing flexibility to design advanced septic systems. “As a recognized leader in the Canadian onsite wastewater industry, we bring decades of expertise and a commitment to engineering excellence. Our proprietary trickle filter technology ensures
outstanding treatment performance while maintaining a low-maintenance footprint— critical for remote and industrial sites. This project gave us the opportunity to introduce our technology to Saskatchewan for the first time,” says Dan Madon, President & CEO.

Canadian Shield Consultants, based in St. Charles, ON, has completed a wastewater treatment system at the Foran-McIlvenna Bay Operations in McIlvenna Bay, Saskatchewan. The project is located near Flin Flon,
Manitoba.

The site occupancy includes a camp facility, administration building, offices, and workshops, accommodating a total of 450 people, with a wastewater treatment capacity of 112,500 L/day.

As two proudly Canadian companies, Waterloo Biofilter has the expertise, resources, and experience to support Canadian Shield’s team and help ensure a seamless and successful outcome.

For the new treatment system at McIlvenna Bay, we utilized the Waterloo Biofilter foam media treatment system. With three decades of use in Canada, this patented foam-based technology has proven to be a robust and practical solution for wastewater treatment.

“The core of the Waterloo Biofilter system is our synthetic, absorbent filter medium, configured as a free-draining, attached growth biological trickling filter.” The patented filter medium supports long-term loading rates typically up to 10 times greater than sand filters or soils. It simultaneously provides aerobic, anaerobic, and anoxic environments for biological treatment, and maintains biological populations even during periods of inactivity.

“Our longstanding partnership with Canadian Shield is built on shared values of quality, efficiency, and sustainability. Together, we combine Canadian Shield’s exceptional engineering and project management
capabilities with Waterloo Biofilter’s advanced treatment technologies and inhouse technical resources. This synergy enables us to provide comprehensive, end to-end wastewater solutions that meet the highest environmental and operational standards,” says Dan Madon.
