How the Waterloo Biofilter® Works
The Waterloo Biofilter® uses an advanced synthetic filter medium to treat wastewater biologically. Wastewater is sprayed intermittently over the filter medium, allowing it to drain by gravity while a naturally occurring microbial biomass develops within the medium. This biomass oxidizes organic material and nitrifies ammonia, effectively treating wastewater with high efficiency.
Because the filter medium is contained within a tank, the system performs reliably under all soil types, drainage conditions, and cold climates, outperforming conventional sand filters or soil-based systems. The Waterloo Biofilter® can handle flows from less than 1,000 L/day up to more than 300,000 L/day (250 to 90,000 gal/day), making it ideal for a wide range of applications.
